Cihhu was formerly named Piwei and the village used to call it “the entrance to a cave” as it is situated at the northern exit of the Baiji Tunnel. Previously named Nioujiaonanpo the lake was renamed Cihhu by the late President Jiang, Jieshih when he came here to carry out an inspection of the mountain area. The scenery reminded him of his homeland – Sikou, Fenghua, Jhejiang and therefore he renamed the lake Cihhu in memory of his mother?s kindness and love. In 1955, Lin, Benyuan family provided the land around the lake of 19 hectare for the purpose of constructing the late President Jiang?s residence.
The late President Jiang himself conceived the idea of the building, Retired Servicemen Engineering Agency carried out the construction work, and Cihhu Guesthouse was completed on June 13, 1959. The late President Jiang passed away on April 5, 1975, his coffin was temporarily placed here on the 16th of the same month and thereafter the guesthouse was renamed Cihhu Presidential Burial Place. Mr. Jiang, Jingguo wrote Sad Memories of the Late President Jiang when he kept a vigil beside the coffin.
The Ministry of Defense set up an administration office here to undertake the responsibility for receiving visitors, management and maintenance. In 1988, Mr. Jiang, Jingguo passed away and his coffin was temporarily laid in Dasi Presidential Burial Place, Touliao and therefore the administration office was transformed into Cihhu-Dasi Presidential Burial Place Administration Office. An average of approximately 1 million visitors comes here to pay his respects to the late president every year.

picture

The tour of spacious Cihhu Presidential Burial Place starts from the Information Center in front of the parking lot, goes along the walking path, passes through the archway and arrives at the Cihhu lake. You may see black and white swans swimming leisurely on the lake and a beautiful landscape of lakes and mountains. Continue to walk ahead and turn right to arrive at the stele with inscription reading Jiang-jin-zih-yuan-miao-bei” and finally proceed along the steps to enter the hall to pay respects to the late president.
With mountains at the back and a lake in the front the building is surrounded with the woods and faces south. Modeled on the courtyard house with a 口shape, the single-story building with a red-tile roof is made of bricks. There are round doors leading to the side halls on both right and left side of the building and an air-raid shelter built under the mountain at the back of the building. Walking into the hallway, you may find a patio and a veranda inside the building. There are covered passages in front of the main hall and in the front and rear of both wings. Additionally, all rooms have large window-doors opening to the patio as well as the opposite space for the sake of excellent natural light and for convenience of evacuation in case of an emergency.
The main hall keeps the coffin of the late President Jiang, Jieshih with the late President Jiang’s and Mrs. Jiang’s bedroom next to it on the left. The left wing has a guest-receiving room and a studio and Mr. Jiang, Jingguo?s bedroom is on the farther left wing. The room next to the one keeping the coffin on the right is a medal showroom. The right wing has Mr. Jiang, Jingguo?s rest room and a VIP room. On the left of the hallway is the History Room and on the right is the Administration Office. Other service spaces such as the kitchen and storerooms are located behind the right wing.
